    This map summarizes the energy audit results from the Governor's School Audit Initiative. The initiative was awarded $2 million in stimulus funding to provide energy audits for 394 facilities in 100 school districts across Oregon. These facilities had never received a whole-building analysis before because they were not covered by the state's Public Purpose Charge program (SB 1149). This map does not include SB 1149 schools at this time.

    Governor Kitzhaber has set energy efficiency as the cornerstone to Oregon's long-term energy policy vision. The Governor's multi-phase, multi-year effort to transform the role of energy efficiency has begun with Oregon's public K-12 schools. In January, Governor Kitzhaber announced a comprehensive energy audit initiative covering 500 schools. (Click here to learn more.) In parallel with these audits, the Governor has requested ODOE to identify new energy efficiency projects at public schools and develop low cost financing for these projects. Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) plans to help schools-statewide-become more energy efficient.


With this in mind, ODOE's Small-Scale Energy Loan Program (SELP) is pleased to announce a call for energy efficiency projects at K-12 public schools or with K-12 related infrastructure. SELP will make available low cost financing for eligible school district projects.

500 Schools to have energy audits
Governor Kitzhaber directed the Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) to launch a comprehensive School Energy Audit Initiative on January 11, 2011. The audits are the first step in a multi-phase, statewide effort to achieve improved energy efficiency at public schools and create jobs. The audits will be conducted at no cost to the schools or community as they will be entirely funded by Oregon's federal stimulus program (American Recovery & Reinvestment Act).

The energy audits will target more than 500 school district facilities. Generally, these facilities are not covered by the electricity Public Purpose Charge (PPC). They are school district facilities that receive their electricity service from Oregon's Consumer Owned Utilities (COUs). Currently, ODOE has comprehensive audit information for most public schools covered by the PPC (also known as the Energy Efficient Schools Program). By conducting comprehensive energy audits of the school facilities in the COU territories, the state can lay the foundation for a more comprehensive approach to energy efficiency at Oregon's public schools.

The goals of the Governor's schools energy audit initiative are to:

Conduct ASHRAE level commercial building audits on approximately 500 school facilities by the fall of 2011.

Immediately identify certain energy efficiency measures that could be implemented as soon as possible.

Identify more comprehensive, capital-intensive energy efficiency measures that could be implemented during the summer of 2012 or later.

Combine the data from these audits with the data from the existing Schools Program, to create a comprehensive, statewide schools energy database.
